The best ryokan I have ever visited in Japan. You feel at home. It is located in a picturesque place with its own sakura alley, momiji. There is a bamboo grove. Breakfasts and dinners (kaiseki) are interesting and delicious. You can feel the constant attention of the ryokan staff. The onsens are varied and beautiful, after visiting them, my skin became very smooth. The rooms are historical, large, classic, very pleased. I recommend Arai Ryokan!

I stayed here with my family to celebrate my 60th birthday. The food was delicious. The baths were also very nice. There were many types, and they were available in the rooms too, which was great. The courtyard was also lovely. I'd definitely like to visit again in the fall.

Fabulous stay at this beautiful ryokan. Staff was unfailingly helpful, attentive and kind, even though they spoke little English, and we speak even less Japanese. The meals were amazing and the five onsen were fantastic. Our stay was peaceful and restorative...just what we needed!

No kidding, I won't come again. 1. As soon as I walked into the room, spiders, bees and flies were flying around. The 20-year-old waiter who led the way was also scared after killing a bee alone. She quickly notified the pest control master to come over. After the master sprayed and killed all the way, there were still about five flies left, so I decided to check out. The front desk disagreed and changed me to another room, but the bathroom was very dirty. It was obvious that no one had lived in the room for a long time. After the hot water was turned on, the brown sediment on the floor was instantly washed away, leaving a thick layer of dirt. 2. This room can only be checked in after 3:00 pm. I stayed in another hotel the night before. After checking out, I waited for four hours in the town. Other hotels can be checked in at 2:00. 3. The hotel does not have a free shuttle bus for pick-up and drop-off, and you need to pay extra taxi fare. 4. The private bath is very dirty, with visible stains, hair and insects. 5. The facilities in the room are very old and have a strong musty smell. There is a carpet on the way to the big bath that is seriously moldy and has a pungent smell because of water leakage. 6. The sun is very dazzling in the morning and cannot be covered at all. Basically, you will be woken up by the dazzling sunlight after sunrise. In addition, the hotel is right by the river, so it is very noisy and the sound insulation is very poor. 7. The waiter who served dinner seemed to be seriously ill. He kept coughing and sneezing, and he had to go in and out to serve dishes and explain. I don’t know why he was not allowed to rest and replaced by another waiter. It was a terrible experience. Fortunately, I only stayed for one night.

Very traditional onsen with rooms rebuilt but keeping the historical decoration and environment. Enjoyed very much the Japanese food and service.especially their breakfast. Dinner was not truly our taste on all dishes , mainly veggie and seafood. But in general very impressive experience and will recommend to friends who are looking for authentic Japanese Onsen .
