Good hotel on the outskirts of Matera
Hotel Cave del Sole was a nice hotel that was exactly what we needed for two nights exploring Matera.
There’s parking for around 10 cars in a courtyard in front of the hotel (plus an underground garage which looked tight to park in). This opens on to a fairly busy road - take care exiting. You really do need a car as it’s 10 mins drive to Matera. We went to a local restaurant recommended by the hotel: 5 mins drive and fine (not pretty but nice pizza).
Our room was for three: a bedroom and a sofa bed in what would normally be the sitting room - all comfortable. It was quite functional but nice - all white and clean. There was a kettle and reception kindly provided milk. Breakfast was fine and staff were helpful and friendly.
Matera btw is definitely worth including on your Puglia visit - we spent a full day there and we’re able to see most of it.
A great, functional hotel (not a ‘wow’ but very nice) that ticked all the boxes.

La nostra famiglia ha soggiornato per la terza volta presso l’ hotel e questo fa capire quanto sia speciale questo posto. Location e struttura sono da sogno, Matera e i Sassi sono magici ma l’intero staff è il valore aggiunto.il direttore una persona estremamente disponibile ed attenta, i ragazzi della reception tutti quanti accoglienti e meravigliosi senza dimenticare la mitica Coco che si occupa con grandissima cura delle stanze. Dire che soggiornare qui è come essere a casa rende bene l’idea e quando si parte si ha nostalgia e desiderio di ritornare……

O hotel é fora dos "sassis" mas tem uma boa localização. Possui estacionamento. Os quartos são amplos, bem confortáveis - onde eu me hospedei parece que passou por reforma - está bem novo (vejam fotos). A limpeza é muito boa, o café da manhã é muito bom. O atendente Inocencio, que fez o nosso check-in, deu várias explicações de como fazer o passeio em Matera, foi muito atencioso.

The establishment was clean and breakfast adequate. The room was soulless, clean but No character. Entrance and exit to hotel very precarious, be aware .location to matera not great as too far to walk, which was disappointing especially when visiting restaurants. Would need to taxi both ways .

Il mio soggiorno al Cavo del Sole con la mia famiglia è stato semplicemente eccellente! Un angolo di paradiso dove ogni dettaglio è curato con attenzione. La pace del luogo, la bellezza della struttura e la gentilezza del personale rendono l’esperienza davvero speciale. Mi sono sentita coccolata dall’inizio alla fine. Un posto dove si stacca davvero la spina… e si sogna ad occhi aperti. Non vedo l’ora di tornare! ESPERIENZA STUPENDA!!
